Thailand is mourning the loss of Princess Bajrakitiyabha,
the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who died at the age of 47 after spending nearly four years in a coma. The princess, affectionately known as “Princess Bha,” collapsed in December 2022 due to a severe heart-related condition and never fully recovered. Over the years, her health was complicated by infections, abdominal inflammation, irregular heartbeat, and blood-clotting issues. Her passing was confirmed by the royal palace, bringing an end to a long and difficult medical battle that had kept her away from public life. Born in 1978, Princess Bajrakitiyabha was widely respected for her intelligence, professionalism, and dedication to public service. Educated in law, including studies in the United States, she built an impressive career as a lawyer, diplomat, prosecutor, and advocate for social justice. She also represented Thailand internationally and worked closely with organizations promoting legal reform and women’s rights.
Beyond her royal title, Princess Bajrakitiyabha earned admiration for her commitment to helping vulnerable people, particularly women in prisons and disadvantaged communities. Many viewed her as one of the most accomplished and respected members of the Thai royal family. Her work with international organizations, including the United Nations, strengthened her reputation as a compassionate and capable leader. Following the announcement of her death, tributes poured in across Thailand. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul described the loss as a source of immense national grief and praised the princess as a symbol of kindness, justice, and equality. Funeral ceremonies with the highest royal honors are expected to take place at Bangkok’s Grand Palace. While her life ended far too soon, Princess Bajrakitiyabha leaves behind a legacy of service, dignity, and dedication that will continue inspiring future generations throughout Thailand and beyond.
